NEW LONDON, CT. Summer is alive and well at Ocean Beach. My daily walk can only be done in the morning, and eventually, limited to evenings when it is cooler, at the beach where it is safe. The walks will give way to swimming soon, either at the Olympic size OB pool or at my small beach near my Spot. The "toxic mother and daughter" team are back! in my Spot at the end of the boardwalk, which I'm happy to share. OASIS is at Ocean Beach, May-June 2010 before taking a much-needed hiatus in July-mid August! Think I can step on it; pack it up a little earlier in the morning, so I can get there, so I can paint 9-10, so I can wrap it up already, and be a "beach babe" like other normal people??? I even have a book, which I'm now reading, for the beach, "Sisters" by Danielle Steele. Ironically, the personalities each girl embodies are more similar than different to my three sisters and me. At least, I think so, but you know already there is going to be a difference of opinion. -- Brian Likes This. Honeeeeey, see you at the beeeeeeaaach! it's like Summer never left. ON BOARD! I promise, coming soon I will have for you THE GRAVEDIGGER EPISODE. (Refer to earlier post.) This will be a review of last week's episode of "Bones," on FOX TV, which happens to be one of my favorite shows. The "afterglow" lasts long after I turn off the TV! Included will be -- she's baaaack! -- I. quotes from RENASCENCE by Edna St. Vincent Millay. If you remember, it was a poem about being buried alive. Alas, the definition of RENASCENCE is rebirth, a flowering of the arts and sciences! Also included is some long-awaited II. VOCAB, unique to my situation. Added to the mix will be an account of the earlier part of this decade, 2001-03, III. a feeling of being "trapped." Finally, some quotes from the show will accompany the video clip -- see earlier post. In conclusion, I will briefly describe my bout with PTSD in transition to my new pad -- it's so hot, it's cooool!!!...* * * :) P.S. I feel it's very important to write about this and last week's episode hit home. (Denise...Denise Dances...2010)
UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL If you would like to see more of my stuff, -- all of these paintings and drawings I have been showing you on http://sites.google.com/site/makingartaffordabletothepublic/, -- and at the MidWinter Artist Reception and at the Hygienic XXXI and Fifth Crossing Juried -- come to the Mystic Art Festival in downtown Mystic on Saturday (10-6) and Sunday (10-5), August 14 & 15, 2010. There you can meet, if you haven't already, my more sociable counterpart, my sister Kelley, who will be helping me to sell my art! As for the stuff for wildflower notecards, you will just have to wait until I can buy more camera film, snap shots, and post on my MAAP website at a later date in June. Then, you will also be able to view: Portrait of Paula and Robin in Red Maple. Soon! They're all done! I promise! Up and coming: "Four Seagulls on a Rock" (OASIS goes outdoors to Ocean Beach, preferably 9-10am, if I can get my a** in gear!) After that will be New London Ledge Light Up Close and Summer Beach Scenes #1 and #2. OASIS goes on hiatus until mid July, when I hope to be on Block Island! OASIS will resume after the Mystic Art Festival in mid August with Carousel Scenes. I've woken up and smelled the coffee! Now it's time to stop and smell the flowers!!!...* * * :) Remember, a portion of all proceeds from the sale of art related to Ocean Beach will be donated to Save Ocean Beach (SOB)!

I wanted to paint it hot like the sun!
So people will feel the passion that I feel.
And they will!
I want to paint them LOUD so that people will hear them!
And hear them still!
I want to paint them LOUD like the Lion's Roar!
And so people will hear it

A series of sketches inspired from the gardens at Ocean Beach:
"Echinacea Purpurea" (painted daisy)
in Colored Pencil Sketch from life (al fresco) on Sat., Aug. 23, 2009...
vivid pastel crayon...several watercolor pencil renderings... and finally, O'Denise, a Georgia O'Keefe spin-off in vibrant pastel. -- In a way, no one ever really sees a flower, it is so small. Seeing takes time, like to have a friend takes time. (-- Georgia O'Keefe).
ON BEING TOO NICE: Jennifer Garner by Jeanne Wolf (Article excerpts. For more info, go to: http://Parade.com/garner "I understood how to take care of people, but I didn't know how to ask for anything I needed." I'm priviledged, because I have a lot of freedom." She likes to make breakfast, pack lunches, and bake homemade bread. "It's fun. It's what my mother did. She made every meal." When I switched my major from chemistry to theater in college, my father never batted an eye. That was impressive when you think how hard they worked to save and put us all through school. I'm conflict-averse. I don't like to argue. But back then, I couldn't have a fight. I couldn't work things out because I wasn't able to say what I needed to say. I didn't have a voice. I didn't dare to express myself. I realized I needed to be more like my character in Alias, who was so powerful and confident and an inspiration to me. I understood very well how to be nice and how to take care of people. I didn't know how to ask for anything that I needed. It was important to balance it out." I can tell you what I can't abide -- women criticizing other women and mothers criticizing other mothers...whether it's between staying at home, going to work...we should just assume everyone is doing the best they can. Women should take care of each other, not tear each other down. "I would just like to see a mother who really believes that she has done it all so right."
