Hi from W Duck Pond!

Hi! Had a nice swim / boardwalk walk to OASIS / and walk along the shore to the stone jetty which separates Waterford Beach via the Channel from Ocean Beach in New London! So you're crossing the Town Line by wading across the channel, a pilgrimmage I used to make during the earlier part of the 2000 decade. Walk down Ocean Ave to OB, along the shore, across the Channel, along Waterford Beach, up the road to Camp Harkness; then to Harkness Park, and across another Channel to The Strand! I haven't been able to make this walk in many moons, but at least to start from OB would be a great start! Fall is coming! I think that Seaside Park would be a cool hike to take, as well. The weather is yucky and I'm starting to feel the doldrums. What am I going to do to keep me busy and happy during the rainy days which are about to deluge us? Go to Niantic Cinema? See "The Help!" Stay tuned for either Monday or Tuesday, when I continue my own pilgrimmage to bring to you, fun facts re: life after death in ancient belief systems around the world. My readership is down this month. Guess some of you are on vacation or ya got back-to-school shopping underway, already! Take care and will talk again from the Groton Library. Got another fun creative project underway this month, so honeeey see you all at the beeeaaaach! This summer for the month of August and into the lovely fall months. It's gonna be great this year! (How do I know. I got not just One, but Two Guardian Angels in Heaven!) Denise Quack-quack!

Time to Cool Off!

Good afternoon to everyone here, live from the Groton Library, home of the rams & lambs! Groton Town is a very good place for me to cool off and I feel very much at home here, as it reminds me of my rural roots, including my childhood home in the woodsy Montville, CT and childhood memories spent with my sisters, my grandmother, Memere, and my cousins here in Groton. Joel Osteen once referred to "places of blessing" and I've elaborated in prior posts how the place of Groton has been a blessing to me. It is one of the only places where I feel I can truly experience that Peacable Kingdom. COMING SOON TO MAAP! "Manisses Nativity Scene," (OILS OF BLOCK ISLAND), 18 x 24 Oil on Canvas. A spin-off of A Peacable Kingdom by Edward Hicks. Coming to MAAP in September 2011! Finally! For more info, go to: http://sites.google.com/site/makingartaffordabletothepublic/

IMPOSSIBLE!

"They were leading a very nice life. Beach, friends, artists, baseball games for him, work for her. It seemed magical and easy to both of them, and she was grateful for his presence. Without meaning to, he had changed her life and added something she'd never had. A youthful side of life that had eluded her when she married young and had babies. Even before that, she had been busy learning from her father, and then later, working for him. She had never led the casual, unconventional life that Liam was still enjoying at forty. None of these people had tasted success yet, or the responsibilities and burdens that came with it. They worked hard but made almost nothing. Few if any were married, and no one...had children. They seemed to have no responsibilities at all...He had taken great pleasure all his life in swimming against the tides." (FROM: "Impossible" by Danielle Steele, Copyright 2005. Knapp Time!

(Forgive me for feeling hot and aggravated, due to having to take my laundry outside of my living quarters, in this extreme heat, due to circumstances beyond my control.) JESSIE EDWARDS STUDIO: Kate Knapp! "Visions of Block Island: Recent Paintings." August 11-24, 2011. Opening Reception: 8/13/11. 5-7pm. I have been admiring the "wet on wet" bold and brilliant style of the oil paintings of local scenes in Block Island by Kate Knapp for about the past two years. From the article I recently read, she has been painting for the past 40 years and has had extensive formal training in the best art schools in the Northeast. However, her own unique talent clearly shines through in her work. Training is good, but I feel her talent lies in the "doing" art: Getting out there on the island every Spring and Summer, and actually painting outdoors AMERICAN IMPRESSIONISM style -- rain or shine. Fortunately for her, art was her first love, and obviously, her talents were nurtured by the people who were close to her while she was very young. Regardless of the unique talents of anyone, if their abilities and talents aren't nurtured, supported and developed throughout their lives.....Good f'n luck! Be Humble

THE CONFIDENT WOMAN DEVOTIONAL (Copyright 2005, by Joyce Meyer): Be Humble!...."Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that in due time He may exalt you." -- 1 Peter 5:6....Joseph dreamed of having authority and being a great man. However, he was young and impetuous. Joseph's brothers hated him and sold him into slavery. God used the situation as an opportunity to test and train Joseph. He even spent thirteen years in prison for something he didn't do, but whatever happened to Joseph during those years definitely equipped him for his God-ordained role in history. Joseph rose to power with only Pharoah himself being greater. He was placed in a position to feed multitudes of people, including his father and brothers during seven years of famine. Peter had to be prepared by going through some very humbling experiences; he was a powerful man but a proud man as well. The Lord had to humble him before He could use him. Most strong leaders have a lot of natural talent, but they are also full of themselves (pride) and have to learn how to depend on God. They have to trade in their self-confidence for God-confidence. Your pain can become someone else's gain. Your mess can become your ministry if you will have a positive attitude and decide to let everything you go through prepare you for what is ahead. (P.S. I guess they forgot to mention patience!)

Lyrics, I'll Make a Man Out of You Lyrics

Lyrics, I'll Make a Man Out of You Lyrics

REFLECTION

REFLECTION...Look at me...I will never pass for a perfect bride or a perfect daughter...Can it be I'm not meant to play this part?...Now I see...That if I were truly to be myself...I would break my family's heart!....Who is that girl I see staring straight back at me?...Why is my reflection someone I don't know? Somehow I cannot hide...Who I am deep inside. When will my reflection show who I am inside?....When will my reflection show who I am inside? "My, my. What beautiful blossoms we have this year. Ah, look. This one's late. But I'll bet that when it blooms, it will be the most beautiful of all." FROM: Walt Disney Pictures Presents: MULAN. Special Edition. Release: 2004.

Sights on the Sound

SIGHTS ON THE SOUND ....the doldrums of the flat Rhode Island coast, the marshland, monotony, flatscape, disturbing...The rural beauty of Fisher's Island, its greenery and rolling hills, sandy bluffs and sprawling estates...The Race Rock Lighthouse, solitary, a turret - Russian influence, steel gray...the green forestry of Bluff Point...and the bright light of the sun on ocean upon entering the mouth of the Thames River into New London Harbour....the white light so bright I could barely look into it...where Paula and Russell now reside...The "quaint charm" of Eastern Point Beach...the steely structure of the Branford House at the University of Conn's Avery Point campus...The industrial base in Groton...and finally, New London's shore: New London Ledge Light: an old schoolhouse, strict and foreboding. The landmark buildings themselves: traditional. Stark. Harsh. Unyielding. The Establishment. Institutions. Imprisonment. Masculine. The military: the ramparts on the embankment of Fort Trumbull. Hard. The four tall spires of St. Mary Star of the Sea...reaching upwards: S.O.S. "Ain't no place for a lady!"
